People invest in art and in jewelry. Cameos are both. Cameos are miniature pieces of art, and valuable pieces of jewelry. Investing is really in people's mind today. So, what about investing in antique cameo jewelry?
Investing in 2009 is very different than it was years ago because we don't even know if our money will be worth the paper it is written on next year! For the first time in the history of the United States this has happened and investors are looking outside the box.
Investing in jewelry and antique cameos is similar to the stock market. You buy and hold your investment from 5 to 20 years and then will make a profit and many times a very large profit if your selection and buying price was good.
Of course we are not talking about the plastic fake cameos here, we are talking about the carved shell cameos from Italy and the hard gemstone cameos from Germany. the beautiful valuable cameos.
Italian Cameos have been around for quite some times. As a matter of fact seashells have been carved into cameos for about 1000 years.
Shell cameos are carved in Italy in the town of Torre del Greco. This Italian town is really the world center of the shell cameo.
There are ONLY two kinds of cameos that are REAL, and they are the stone and the shell cameos. EVERYTHING is is fake.
China, for example, produces fake cameos made of plastic wanting to imitate the Italian shell cameo.
Shell cameos are the most popular today, even though the gemstone cameos were here before, and still carved today as well.
