Chinese vases have always been well loved and received in Western countries. The reason for this is that Chinese vases are some of the most simple and beautiful vases in the world. Even though the patterns are always rich and detailed, there is a majestic beauty about them that cannot be explained. There are common patterns that you will see in all of the vases you find. In this article, we will discuss the different types of vases and their resulting patterns.
Wild-Life: A lot of Chinese vases are made from images depicting birds, insects or dragons. Usually only one type of animal will be depicted on the vase with it's natural habitat surrounding the actual animal. These vases are often center pieces of rooms and tables. The colours are bright and vivid and the images almost seem life-like. In these vases the animal or bird is always the brightest part of the vase – thus the most noticeable – and the background is in a light blue pattern.
Flowers: Chinese vases are mostly inspired by nature. This is why a lot of the vases you'll see have stunning depictions of different types of flowers. Depending on the size of the vase, there will usually be one or two big flowers followed by patterned colours. You can find these in a range of different colours. The colours range from blue and white, red and white and black and white. It really depends on your tastes and dislikes but you will certainly be able to find something that will suit your style.
Cinnabar Lacquer: Cinnabar Lacquer vases are are made of a specific lacquer that is used to embellish vases with red or black lacquer. These vases are a very nice change from the painted enamel. The patterns are engraved into the actual vase and stand out. The two most common designs are flowers and dragons. Due to the fact that these vases are only mostly in black and red, the designs stand out much more.
Chinese vases have become popular because they are so beautifully and intricately designed. However, they are also growing in popularity because they are becoming more affordable and accessible to the average person.
